Spotted at Sunnyside Park: Play Ball

Saturday, March 29, marked the 7th opening day for the South Central Little League. Proud parents and friends looked on as excited players and coaches paraded onto the field to take part in the ceremony.

The South Central Little League has been providing baseball opportunities for the past 13 years. The league was organized by Anthony Flenoy, Cravon Rogers, among others. The league’s teams are named in honor of the teams from the famous Negro Baseball League. The league initially played at George Nelson, Yellowstone, Park. The games are now played at Sunnyside Park on Bellfort.

The day’s festivities included a health fair organized by the Port City chapter of the Links, Inc., which provided carnival rides, a petting zoo and Pony rides for the event. HISD Trustee, Paula Harris was instrumental in securing the support of the Schlumberger Corporation, whose team provided great food for all who attended.

A great team effort resulted in a great day of fun for all!
