Mighty Colts party, raise funds for scholarships

On Sunday, April 13, members of the Evan E. Worthing Alumni Association hosted their annual “Night of Jazz” gala and scholarship fundraiser. The gala, held at the Bayou City Event Center, was a combination party, old school R&B and jazz concert and several mini reunions.

Ladies were adorned in beautiful evening attire, and gentlemen were open casket clean! They all jammed to the sounds of Tom Burton and Heart 2 Heart, Nelson Mills and 200 Mondays, Kyle Turner, the Worthing Alumni Band and others. Accomplished poet, James Stelly, inspired the audience with spoken word.

Committee member, Ronald Alexander stated that the event has grown each year since its inception. The alumni association is  committed to awarding yearly scholarships to students from the Houston/Sunnyside community who wish to attend one of the following institutions: a four year college or university; a two year college; and a trade or vocational school.

If you are a Worthing graduate and you missed this event, mark your calendar and don’t miss it next year.
