HISD students join digital education movement, receive laptops

HISD, the seventh largest school system in the US is distributing taxpayer-funded laptops and tablets to nearly 18,000 high school students in an attempt to bridge the performance gap between rich and poor students in the district. Funded by grants from the federal government for low-income students and professional development, the program loans the laptops to students who must return them at the end of the year. By January 2016, HISD will make some 65,00 laptops available to all high school students.
